Planning Initiatives

The Mission Hill Citizens Advisory Committee (MHCAC) was appointed by Mayor Thomas M. Menino in the Fall of 2001 to review and guide proposed development by the Redemptorist Fathers (Mission Church), and its developer, Weston Associates, on a number of church-owned sites. The MHCAC is comprised of nine members (originally 10) from the community, as well as State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez and Councilor Michael Ross. The Boston Redevelopment Authority has also formed a team of City staff to advise the MHCAC and manage the process, including BRA planning, urban design and economic development staff, and staff from the Boston Landmarks Commission, Boston Transportation Department, and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services. All meetings of the MHCAC are open to members of the public.

Throughout the process, various preservation options were evaluated for the Mission Church "Lower Campus" site located on Smith Street. The permitting process for the conversion 90 Smith Street, or "Middle Building", into office space is complete. Weston Associates is currently evaluating future plans for development at 80 and 100 Smith Street.

The MHCAC is not currently meeting. If the group does begin to hold regular meetings again, meetings will be advertised on our website and by e-mail.
