Planning Initiatives

Boston, a national leader in green building, is promoting the next generation of high performance deep green buildings. The Mayor’s E+ Green Building Program is demonstrating, and proving, the feasibility of regenerative multi-unit residential buildings and bring energy and environmentally positive homes to Boston’s neighborhoods.

In September 2011, the BRA announced the winners of the E+ Green Building RFP. The three selected development teams will construct Boston’s next generation of ultra-efficient, energy positive, deep green buildings on three city owned parcels in Highland Park and Jamaica Plain. In 2012, the City expanded the program with the addition of two new development sites in the Mission Hill and Highland Park neighborhoods and a community symposium, Envisioning E+ Green Communities, held on March 1st. This work continues with a Community Charrette on Saturday, march 10, 2012, from 9:00-1:00Pm, at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, 1350 Tremont Street, Roxbury Crossing; please join us.

The Community Charrette is an opportunity for residents of Mission Hill and Highland Park to share and discuss important criteria (green building, sustainable development, arts, garden space and other quality of life values) that should be considered as DND/BRA prepare for request for Proposals in the future on the Parker and Terrace Streets site, and the Highland and Marcella Streets sites.

The E+ Program is an initiative of the Boston Environment Department, the Department of Neighborhood Development and the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
